UTEC GO International Grant

 

By training future international leaders, UTEC GO programs contribute to develop a new generation of global and future-proof engineers and foster global engagement.

 

The UTEC GO International Grant offers an exciting opportunity for UTEC outstanding students wishing to get financial support to study abroad, conduct research or pay international academic visits participating in an international program in Peru or abroad. This scholarship is for pre-approved study abroad programs.

UTEC students in good standing, who have satisfactory academic and disciplinary records for the term preceding their proposed time away may be approved for a semester-term or short-term (minimum 8 weeks long) study abroad. Applicants must be current degree-seeking students and have approved at least 50 credits at UTEC.

UTEC GO Ambassador Requirements

After Grant recipients complete their study abroad experience, they will become UTEC GO Ambassadors. They will be invited to share their international experience with UTEC community through presentations, webinars or media, encouraging others to pursue study abroad and illustrating the academic and professional benefits received from such opportunities. They will document and report their activities with the Internationalization Office.

Scholarship Categories

The UTEC GO International Grant is awarded in three different categories: General Merit, Financial Need, and Underrepresented.  

Students traveling to non-traditional locations, mainly in Latin America and Asia, receive some special consideration. Students can be considered in all of the categories for which they are eligible, but may only receive an award in one category. 
 
▪ A third of the available funding is awarded in the financial need category. The scholarship committee uses UTEC student financial information and a budget statement on the application to determine financial need (it is also applicable to students’ recipients of Beca 18 categories: Beca 18 (Ordinaria), Beca Albergue, Beca FF. AA. Beca Repared).  
 
▪ A third of the available funding is awarded in the underrepresented category. The underrepresented categories include: 1) Traditionally underrepresented minority in STEM (Indigenous communities, farmers or Afro-Peruvian students with proof of belonging to an organization that is part of databases of the Ministry of Culture or the corresponding entity; students recipients of Beca 18 categories: Beca EIB, Beca CNA, Beca Vraem, Beca Huallaga; and women in STEM); 2) Students with a physical or sensory disability registered on UTEC system. 
 
▪ The remaining funding is awarded in the general merit category. All applications are automatically considered for an award in this category. 

Scholarship Amounts

  • ▪ Short-Term (Winter Break or Summer): USD $500 - $1,000
  • ▪ Semester (Fall or Spring): USD $1,000 - $2,000 

Eligibility

UTEC students in good standing, who have satisfactory academic and disciplinary records for the term preceding their proposed time away may be approved for a semester-term or short-term (minimum 8 weeks long) study abroad.   
 
Applicants must be current degree-seeking students and have approved at least 50 credits at UTEC. Students on a Leave of Absence are not eligible to apply to the UTEC GO International Grant.  
 
Proficiency in both written and spoken English is expected of candidates. It is required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS certification. 
 
Identify a study abroad or international program that is approved by the UTEC Internationalization Office, to which you intend to apply or have already applied. 
 
The following applicants are ineligible: UTEC students with a grave disciplinary sanction or suspension from the university and/or with outstanding debts to the institution.

Application Process

In order to apply, you will be asked to fill out the Online Application Form and attach only the following required documentation before November 3rd:

▪ Your personal statement written in English.  Rating is based primarily on the scholarship essay. The committee wants to see that: 1) you have researched your program; 2) you have done academic and cultural preparation for your program; 3) the program aligns with your goals and interests. Each application is reviewed and scored by two separate committee members.

▪ Your resume in English (1 page max).

▪ Your current unofficial transcript (Edu system print)

▪ English language proficiency certification such as TOEFL or IELTS. ✓ TOEFL with a score of 550 or higher for the paper based test (iTP), or an internet-based (iBT) score of at least 80. ✓  IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 or higher. ✓ TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid only if dated within two years of the application deadline. Your application is not complete without the test scores.

 
▪ Two recommendation letters strictly from UTEC current full-time professors, in Spanish, addressed to the UTEC Internationalization Office. This letter must include the professor’s name, email and telephone number.  
 
▪ Generic letters of recommendation will not be accepted. Faculty is encouraged to use the UTEC GO Support Letter Form 

You must complete and submit the Online Application Form and upload all the required documents listed above in one (1) single PDF file (no larger than 5MB). If the file is larger than 16MB, you will be unable to summit the online form.  

Do not include any additional documents besides those indicated above. 

 

Wait for an in-person interview 
After you submit your application, there will held a pre-selection process. If you are eligible, you may be asked to sign up for an in-person interview. Rating is based primarily on the scholarship essay.
